General description of the collection: The Benjamin O. Davis Sr. collection spans the years 1893 to 1974. The collection documents Davis' fifty years of military service in the United States (U.S.) Army. The bulk of the collection documents Davis' activities from 1941 to 1945. Significant to the collection are Davis' official papers regarding the use of African American soldiers during and after World War II (WWII), and his correspondence with his second wife, Sadie O. Davis (Sadie E. Overton), during WWII. Additional topics include the training of African American soldiers in the U.S. Army from 1898, the Advisory Committee on Negro Troop Problems, the American Battle Monuments Commission, and the making of the movie, THE NEGRO SOLDIER.
